Location & Directions
Situated in north-eastern Benin, the town of Nikki is accessible by road from the country’s main towns and cities. It is approximately 100 km from Parakou and 600 km from Cotonou (an 8- to 10-hour journey).
Accommodation
There are various accommodation options (hotels, guesthouses and homestays) available for visitors. Due to the high number of visitors during the Gaani period, it is strongly recommended that you book several weeks in advance.
Getting around
Car parks are available near the main venues. Local transport provides easy access to the venues.
Visitor tips
- Wear comfortable clothing suited to the climate.
- Stay hydrated throughout the day.
- It is best to be accompanied by a qualified local guide when visiting historic sites, to gain a better understanding of local customs and traditions.
- Do not enter areas reserved for ceremonies without authorisation.
- Always ask people's permission before taking their portrait.
- Help keep the venues clean by using the designated waste areas.
